Maternity Dress Refashion

I've always wanted to delve deeper into the world of thrift-shop-finds-refashioning, but never had much time to do so. I did manage to squeeze in one small refashion earlier this fall.

Apparently being pregnant comes with a few challenges - one of those being you rather suddenly can't find anything to wear. Either it doesn't fit period or its very uncomfortable.

Sooo....I bought a terribly comfortable pink t-shirt dress with just the right sort of empire waist to accommodate the bump. The problem was it was a bit low in the neck, so had to be layered, and it would be more comfortable if the skirt was a bit longer, because all my slips peeped out a bit.

So, one afternoon (right before a big town trip) I was inspired to cut up another dress, a knit pink print maxi dress sent to me by Mom, that was very long, floor length on me. So it easily spared a good amount of skirt which I used to make a neckline insert and a hem panel on the solid pink dress.

Turned out very comfortable and swingy. Ideally I would love to have a closet full of simple, comfortable dresses. It would be so much nicer than having to match separates all the time.

Oh cute! :) I think it is so wonderful that you haven't gained weight through your pregnancy! :D I hope I can do as well someday ;)

So, I've got a question not really post related!... Are you the oldest in your family? I saw some of the links and I can't figure out if you have younger siblings or some that are older, too :)

Love,

Ruth

Praying for you!

Thanks, Aspen!!

Hi Ruth! Thank you, but I actually have gained a lot more of a bump than in that picture! :) So far I haven't seemed to gain extra, so I guess that is a good thing. Yes, I am the oldest sibling in my family.

I love to refashion Goodwill finds!! The choices of fabric are often much better than what you find in the fabric store and the larger the size the better...you just have more fabric to harvest!I am currently working on gifts for my 3 little nieces. I found a beautiful rhinestone studded ball gown for 12.99 at Goodwill (a stain makes it unusable for use as a prom dress again),that I going to cut up and make into three princess dresses for their dress up chest. I will make one of a kind dresses for each of them for about $4.50 each! Can't beat that! You are looking wonderfully well by the way! I hope you have a good pregnancy and a easy birthing experience. I will be praying for all three of you!

Ahh! You have a baby bump!! I know I've seen it before, but when I actually stop and think about it again, ahhh! :D
Your 'new' dress looks so cute and comfy! I'm glad you were able to refashion something for yourself, it is so rewarding to make useless, unwearable pieces work!

So cute! I get there are some late 1960s patterns out there with Empire waists that would be cute too!
Saw this article this morning in the NY
