Wedding Dress is Finished!

After countless hours (months?) of hand-sewing, fitting, planning, researching, and lots of love and dreams - my wedding dress is officially finished !
As of Feb. 13th.

I was scared to death all along that I would get it finished, but wouldn't be happy with it (but wouldn't have time to change it) But I was wrong. I couldn't be more thrilled with the way the fit and look turned out! I'm so glad I made the decision to change design mid-project on the sleeves and skirt construction.
I love it now so much.
(it's also quite comfortable, which is a huge plus!)

So awfully excited!

Hoping to do the first photos in it next week, then I'm going to pack it away safely with all the wedding day accessories to await March 30th...

  7. Oh, how wonderful! It's a good thing you got it done in plenty of time so you don't have to worry about finishing it as you get closer to the wedding. I know we all can't wait to see the pictures! Is there any way you could do live streaming of the wedding on Vimeo so all your sewing friends across the globe could watch it, too?

  8. Katrina,

Well, I'm not sure. I'll have to check into that. The local of the wedding is going to quite rural, so I'm not sure that there would be enough electricity/signal to do live streaming.

However - I do know for certain that I can promise to post videos of the ceremony and celebration after the wedding...and lots of pictures, of course! :)

  9. Congratulations Atlanta! The dress looks beautiful. I can't wait to see pictures of the whole dress and your wedding.

Was it hard to decide exactly what style to make your wedding dress? I am engaged and am starting to make my own wedding dress, probably 1910 inspired. The more I think and sketch, the more ideas I come up with, and I have about six variations made up in my imagination. It is difficult to decide which one to use. Has anything similar happened to you?

  10. Hello Lauren,

Congratulations! How perfectly exciting!! When is your wedding, if I may ask?

Yes, the same thing happened to me. I did a lot of sketching, and even when I finally settled on one design, I still ended up changing my design at the last minute!

I don't know if your designs are this way, but mine were all the same as far as fabric, so from the very first I went ahead and ordered all the supplies I needed, while I was still hashing out the exact design. Try to identify the common elements in your different designs, because most likely those are the things you really love the most! That way you know what to start with. Once you have something basic, you can always add details!

And I LOVE the fact that you are going to have an Edwardian inspired wedding dress. It will be beautiful, I know. :)

  11. We haven't set a date yet, but it will probably be this October, in central TX (I live just east of Austin).

Thanks! I am glad I'm not the only one. :) I have identified some common elements in the designs, and am almost decided on what cloth to use.

Your dress has turned out beautifully. :)
