Phantom of the Opera Dress

My most recent custom commission. A cream taffeta ball gown in 1860s style.

The request was for the dress to be similar to the one worn by Emmy Rossum in 'Phantom of the Opera'.

Bodice and skirt are two separate pieces. Slightly off the shoulder bodice is fitted and boned with little puffed sleeves.
Laces up the back with robbon through hand-sewn eyelets.

Fabric used was 'elegance taffeta' from fabric.com. It's a synthetic taffeta - but I love working with it, it's seriously the best faux silk I've ever seen.

Quite a fun project! I love the simplicity and elegance of a white or cream ball gown. :^)

How beautiful! This is similar to what I want my future wedding gown to look like! I always loved that dress from that movie, not so much the movie, just her dresses. :) You did a great job! I love the puff sleeves and pointed bodices! my two favorite elements in a ball gown! :)

In Christ,
Rebecca

This was quite literally breathtaking. Thank you so much for sharing it. I'm going to have to order some swatches of that taffeta. I've ordered from Fabric.com before, but the taffeta is new to me. Thank you for mentioning it.

Congratulations on a job very well done!

Wow, that is so lovely, an amazing job!

Also, I wanted to thank you for that pattern you sent me for the circle skirt. I was finally able to complete it, and it came out very satisfactory! If you care to see pictures, I've posted them to my blog here: http://maidenwithamission.blogspot.com/2011/04/sewing-success.html

Thanks again!
