Last night Mom and I had a baby shower to attend. I decided to try out a new outfit.
I had been having trouble finding a summery top to wear with my new brown linen skirt.
The night before my Granny had given me a couple of tops from her closet. (she buys the cutest clothes from high-end resale boutiques!) This one was a very soft, stretchy v-neck with a cute gathering/knot detail at the bust. The only problem was the lowness of the neck. When is that not a problem with so many otherwise adorable tops? I had planned on wearing a camisole underneath, but those are so horribly tight and HOT for summer. urgh.
So, for a quick-fix I dug through the enormous fabric scrap bag lurking in the shadows of my closet and found a piece of the same brown linen. I cut a large irregular square, double thick. While trying on the shirt, I pined the linen inside the base of the neckline, at the level I wished the neckline to begin.
Then I turned each top edge down 1/2" to the inside and sewed across. I also added a bit of brown eyelet lace. (I think it gives it a nice meant-to-be touch! ) Then I stitched down the sides of the v-neck down to the knot. I also had to hand whip-stitch across the knot. Then I trimmed the fabric within a half-inch of the seam - and finished! It worked great - and we had a lovely time at the shower!
Oh - I almost forgot. the head-band is also a piece of linen from the scrap bag. I just ironed it in a nice fold and tied a knot under my bun. As you probably know, I do love hair accessories!!

SO beautiful! You look absolutely lovely, fresh, and summer-ish!! ;) That is such a neat idea for those low shirts.. now, if I see one that is really cute, I can buy it knowing that I have a way to fix it!! lol!
Thanks for sharing!
Love ya! S
Good job fixing the low neckline on the top! It's a lovely outfit. :)
Creative idea!
Oooh, how adorable! I love it. =)
Love it! And you are right; the eyelet trim does give it a pretty,"meant-to" look
Beautiful job! I've been thinking about doing something similar to some of my shirts. . . because all though layering is really helpful in preserving modesty, it can be miserably hot in the summer.
Love the lace and the skirt as well!
That is so pretty! I'll fix my low neck t-shirts that way. Thanks so much for the idea!
