Recently I've been busy making dresses inspired by the new Rapunzel movie 'Tangled' for the Etsy shop.
I'm always trying to find new fabric and techniques to bring the desgin closer to the movie dress, so here are pictures of the most recent version:
Fitted princess seamed bodice that laces up the front with pink 'mousetail' cord. Small puffed sleeves with appliqued pink stripes. 3/4 length lower pink sleeves trimmed with white daisy lace.
Bodice fabric is a light lavender satin, over skirt is a darker shimmery purple/blue satin, and the under skirt and bodice are a deep plum satin. Skirt front is trimmed with embroidered sequin organza ribbon.

Your dress, just like the original (and the whole movie) is so lovely. :o)
I finally saw this (LOVED IT! Way more than I thought I would) and this is an excellent repro! Good job. It's hard coming up with a way to convey the embroidery on the original without actually doing the embroidery. ;)
Pretty! I love the details on the skirt!
It turned out very lovely!
Gorgeous! You did a really good job!

Goyyygoeous! Simply smashing! The fabrics are just lucious...love the overskirt material especially. It looks almost as if it's a "shot" something?
The embroidery on her skirt front is so lovely...Oh, to find a trim with those glorious scrolls!!!
Very nice! I especially like the lacing. :-)
How pretty! I like the colors.
I admire your persistence! :-) In searching out the materials and all such things.
Although I noticed one difference that you "omitted"... the film skirt is made up of panels, not gathered at the waistline. Do you have a reason for this arrangement? The fuller skirt definitely does have its pro's, too.
Hana - you are right - the skirts are different. I'm not sure why I decided on this differece, I guess I just like doing gathers better than panels - with panels there are so many more seams to deal with.
Oh yes, there certainly are less seams! :D Also, it looks more "princessy". Gathered/pleated skirts are quite fun. I know the full pleated skirt I made for myself is one of my favourites.
This is lovely! I really want to see Tangled. Also, check out this guy's in-progress Rapunzel costume: http://allengale.deviantart.com/
He handpainted the swirls on the skirt!
What a lovely dress! It looks so close to the movie version!
May I ask where you got that pretty purple ribbon trim? I have been (slowly) trying to work on a Rapunzel dress myself. (=
-Christina
Christina, the ribbon came from Hobby Lobby, though I think it might have been on clearance in December, so it may be hard to find now. Good luck!
Hello!
I was googling the tangled dress and came upon your site. You did a beautiful job with this! I was wondering, how did you do it? Do you have a pattern, or maybe even have even made other dresses like this you are willing to sell? Just curious :)
Thank you!
Raechel
Raechel,
Thank you! :) I had several patterns that I combined and changed - if you are interested in the specific details, email me atlanta@bonnyblue.net
I used to sell dresses like this as a custom order item on my Etsy shop, http://www.etsy.com/transaction/51263519
but due to being busy with other things just now they are temporarily discontinued.
I love your Tangled Rapunzel dresses! I am looking for one for upcoming Halloween but all the one I see are much too "commercial".If you know what I mean. Do you make custom dresses? And if so could i maybe get one for Halloween? Thanks For Your time.
Hi there,
I normally sell the Tangled dress as a custom order dress as seen here-
http://www.etsy.com/transaction/51263519
I have temporarily discontinued it, as I had to take some time off this
summer/fall to get items ready for a Jane Austen convention this October. Also, I unfortunately can't take any more Halloween orders this year. Sorry about that - please let me know if there is anything else I can do! :)
